A Trip to the Apple Orchard

Since moving to California from Illinois a year and 3 months ago, Myles and I have been so fortunate to be able to go back every couple of months. I usually reach my limit at about 2 1/2 months and so desperately miss my momma that I convince my wonderfully supportive boyfriend to send us back! So far we have been back for Myles' 1st birthday, Christmas, Easter, and his 2nd birthday. Typically after his birthday visit in August, I would plan on waiting until Christmas for our next visit. In normal people's worlds, 4 months is not a long time, but for me and my ever-growing 2 year old, 4 months away from my family feels more like 4 years. So when I was offered a week long trip back at the end of last month, I didn't hesitate to join! I kept it a secret from my mother and step-dad and surprised them at their house. After all was said and done, I could not have been happier with the week we had back home. We got to spend some great quality time with our loved ones and we packed our days full of great fun!
One of those days was spent at the Apple Orchard and Pumpkin Patch. Myles is currently obsessed with 'punkies' and 'pooky' Halloween stuff, so he was in heaven. Today I am sharing the time we spent at the Apple Orchard. Look out for the rest of our trip over the next weeks or so.

With grandma:

Inside the barn, they have shelves and shelves stocked with the yummiest foods with tons of samples all over! Feeding mommy:

They have samples of all the apples they pick and sell. I always go for the honey crisp.. best apple around; unfortunately it also has the highest price tag!
Of course Myles picked out sour gummy worms as his treat:

Myles' favorite part was animals. He talks about seeing animals all day long, so as soon as I told him there were animals, he wouldn't stop talking about them until he got to see them. It was so cute too because all of their animals were named after Toy Story characters.

My jive turkey momma:

After the animals, Myles went to play.

All was well until he had a head on collision with another little boy. It didn't seem to hurt him, but scared him a lot. After that, he turned into crappy pants. We were ready to leave anyway, except I really wanted to get a picture of him with the growth chart. I love having yearly pictures with things like this, so even though he was upset, I asked him to stand in front of it. He was crying, but stood still long enough for me to snap a pic! Sorry little man!

I am so happy I was able to take Myles back this year. We first went we he was about 5 weeks old, but didn't get to go last year. It means a lot to me to be able to bring Myles to places like this because I went when I was young. And being that we have moved away, it is special to still keep that tradition alive!

What Fall traditions do you have with your family?

  1. Aww! It looks like he had so much fun! Around this time every year we head to the pumpkin patch and I think I'm personally more excited about it than the 3 year old :)

Such fun! We try to get home as often as possible, but like you, it's usually in the summer and for the winter holidays. It's rare to get home during the fall, but that's one of the best times to go back!
Your apple orchard looks amazing. So much great stuff to do and see!

  3. I know what you mean about NEEDING to go home often! We're only two hours away from home and family, but if I go very long without a visit I'm itching to get back down there. Every time my husband travels for work I pack up and head to my parents house. :) Looks like you had a good time apple picking - minus the head on collision. ha ha!

  4. How fun! So happy that you guys got to go to an apple orchard when you went back! To be honest, we never went to any when I lived in Northern California and my first one was last year with Mason. He's already doing things 29 years before me lol :) So fun!

  6. Yes! I went to the Apple Orchard before I had kids too. It is something everyone does every Fall where I come from. I have never actually picked apples off the trees there though. I would love to try that once!

  7. I love it for the tradition. It's so cool to take him to the same places I went to as a kid; to see what has stayed the same and what has changed. I can even get pictures of him doing things that I did as a kid! And now that we moved away it's even more special to go back :)

  8. Yea the Fall is usually forgotten because of the holidays. I wish the holidays were during Fall weather and not winter. Although I like the idea of snow, I just hate being in the cold and dealing with the annoying parts of snow. That's the main reason why we moved!
I loved that we were able to make it to the Apple Orchard though because it is a tradition I want to keep for Myles! Maybe next year we will actually pick the apples off of the trees!

  10. Being a SAHM it is so nice to be close to family to be able to see them when you can or when your husband leaves. Even though our family is a lot further away I am so blessed to be able to see them as often as I do.
Luckily the head collision happened right when we were about to leave anyway.. otherwise we would have missed a lot.. Although I am sure he would have gotten out of his mood with the animals. He loves those!

  11. I haven't seen any apple orchards out here yet. I haven't looked too hard, but I don't think they are too popular out here. Lots of normal farms by us though and luckily some pumpkin patches! Also tons of wineries and vineyards since we moved about 30 minutes form Napa now. And we still haven't checked those out either! Kind of cool that having a blog makes us do things we might not normally do! I love that part of blogging!

  12. And thank you for stopping by! I love sharing our family fun! We did both too in the same day. I will be sharing our time at the pumpkin patch tomorrow! Looking forward to seeing your post :)

  13. Its funny how Myles reacts differently depending on his mood. He can literally get hurt the same way and one time he brushes it off and another he is crying and freaking out for minutes. Typically he could be fine after a couple minutes, but I knew he was also getting hungry and a bit tired too so of course then it was sooo dramatic! Mark definitely deserves my love! It's easy to take things for granted, but I am so appreciative. But I also made that deal with him that if I moved out here, I would have to go back often. Most days are okay, but I have those super tough ones when I want to go back home and stop missing out on time spent with them :(
