A couple weeks ago, we cooked out on the grill for dinner one night. I'm not really sure what happened, but let's just say neither of us will be trying out for Top Chef: Grill Master anytime soon. I honestly blame it on cheap steaks, but regardless, it was barely one grade above canned dog food...ugh... So to make up for it, I decided we needed to be treated to some ice cream. We took a fun little trip to max out on our favorite choices of Baskin Robbins' 31-Flavors. I decided on one scoop of strawberry cheesecake in a waffle cone. Unfortunately for me, my cone was instantly hijacked by this little guy:
I couldn't complain too much though, because I had the best time watching him have his very first ice cream cone. I was able to sneak a few bites here and there, but for the most part, he kept that cone on lock. I was totally surprised that he actually ate some of it. He is not a fan of sweets and normally won't even take a bite if I offer it to him. I'm pretty sure at first, he really only wanted it because I was eating it. Then when he realized it was something new, fun, and messy, he just couldn't give it up. I surely don't blame him!
Every couple of minutes, I had to break the cone off so that he could get to the ice cream. Otherwise, he would stick his whole face into the cone. He made a pretty big mess (as evidenced above), but he was having too much of a good time for me to dare to stop him. He even took my little spoon and started using it to get the ice cream out.

We all had a great time and it definitely made up for the less than stellar dinner. He made a couple other customers smile as well: It's all about the little things!

And of course a huge thanks as always to Ashley over at Words About Waverly for putting together this link-up!

Second set of pictures, the one on the left...I die! My goodness how cute! We have had a few bummer meals the past 2 weeks and I always feel the need to make desert afterwards too! Ha!
ReplyDeleteLol. I think we have all had those grill experiences where it looks and smells amazing and then you dig in like it's your last meal ever, and it's less than pleasing... Lol. The ice cream totally makes up for it though right?! Lol. These pictures are too cute!
ReplyDeleteThis is beyond precious! I love "firsts!" He has some incredible hair, I always feel like boys get the best of everything. Best hair, best eyelashes, best of best of best! PS. I've made many crappy meals involving steak before. I cant get it right!
ReplyDeleteIce cream is a rare treat around these parts, but when we DO get a couple of scoops it is always an instant hit. We then hear, "ice creeeeam" for days after.
ReplyDeleteLove that messy ice cream face!!
Icecream dates are so much fun! We had our first grill out but thankfully it went better than yours. For steaks, I always try marinading so that they are tender but cheap steaks can ruin any dinner!!!
ReplyDeleteRight! His eyelashes are amazing! I love Dylan's hair too! All those curls! You better be ready for when he gets older, he is going to be ridiculously handsome!
ReplyDeleteI can never seems to pick good steaks out. There are so many choices, I never know what's the best.. ugh
Lol. I am not really a grill person either. I do all of the prep work, and Chris does all of the grilling. Otherwise it gets cooked indoors. I think I have maybe started the grill three times in the 6.5 years that we have been together. Lol
ReplyDeleteI think it is good to have some things be special treats, then they really look forward to it and can be used as a reward (when older). I like to do jello with whipped cream too. I've given Myles that a couple times and he just loves making a mess with it as he eats. He is all about exploring and testing out his feelers.. sometimes certain days just call for messy!
ReplyDeleteI always forget about the marinading thing. I only remember right before we are about to start cooking! I bet it would have been way better that way. I also forget about tenderizing too. These steaks were really tough, mostly because they were a cheaper cut, but I think marinading definitely would have helped. Totally doing that next time, and will report on any progress! But anything that brings about an ice cream really isn't so bad anyway lol.
ReplyDeleteSame here! I am scared to start the grill. I am always terrified that it is going to blow up (we have a gas one). I only started it one time and that was when I was pregnant and starving and didn't want to wait any longer. I don't ever want to do that again... scary! I cook all my dinners in the oven or on the stove for sure!
ReplyDeleteAwww he's such a little cutie!! I'm a brand new follower from the Social Media Sunday link up. Can't wait to see more of your posts.

Thanks! It's probably my favorite too! I always think people look at him and assume I'm an unfit mother because his hair is so crazy, but I love it like that. It genuinely makes me happy! I did cut it the other night in the bath though because it was just getting too much and now I miss it. Luckily it grows super fast!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the follow. I also follow you on GFC! I absolutely love your art and your little girl is a cutie too :)
ReplyDeleteYou probably saw it on Instagram! I am a little kid picture happy! I just love capturing all the cute and funny stuff he does :) Thanks for stopping by as always!
ReplyDeleteI think he did! I was totally surprise because he never eats sweets. I've tried to give him a taste here and there and he never wants it. I couldn't believe how much he ate of it. Must have been that good! Thanks for stopping by :)
