5ive on Friday: Life Currently

If you get my 5ive reference.... "Did we just become best friends?" Back in an earlier life, I saw 5ive in concert when they were the openers for NSYNC. My friend and I studied all the dance routines from their concert special on Disney Channel. If you remember when Disney Channel used to air full concerts of all the greats (NSYNC, B*Witched, 98 Degrees, Britney Spears) then we just jumped from best friends to soulmates. The GOOD OLD DAYS people!

Ok back to the actual post. I am working on some top secret new projects related to this here blog, but they are slow moving right now because family always comes before work for me. But I promise they are coming soon! In the meantime, here are five things we have been up to lately:

1. In my last life update post, I talked about how I was getting ready for the Just Between Friends kids consignment sale. I have sold a lot of Myles' old stuff on Facebook, consignment stores, etc. but I still had most of his 2t-3t clothes and a ton of books/movies/toys that he recently outgrew pilling up in our garage. We talked about having a garage sale, but we really didn't have anything else to sell besides Myles' things. So when I got an email about the upcoming sale I thought why not give it a try. I plan on doing a whole post just on the process/results of the sale, but I did get my check back this week and wanted to quickly share that. Without going in to too much detail yet, I would say that in this particular instance, the money was well worth the time/effort put into selling at JBF.

 2. My mom had took time off of work for a vacation to Florida she was planning with my step-dad, but my step-dad got a new job and couldn't take the time off to go with her. So sad right.... well not for me because I got asked to be the new travel buddy! We were going back and forth for a week or so deciding where to go, and then one night my mom sends me this email:

I'm so excited I don't even know how to act. It still feels not real to me, so I will probably not freak out until I am actually on the plane. The longest I have ever been away from Myles is like 8 hours (a couple different times), so I am a bit anxious about that. I know he will be fine and this is a much needed vacation, but I still will miss him dearly! It may sound crazy to non-parents, but a lot can change in just four days when we are talking about toddlers. T-minus 3 weeks!

3. I am currently in the process of changing Myles' room. We kept his blue and brown geometric nursery decor for 2 years. We moved into a new house just weeks before Myles turned 2, so I figured it was the perfect time to change the theme. I decided to go with dinosaurs (some dinosaur DIYs) just because it was the most timeless/neutral theme we both liked. That lasted about another two years, until it was time for a big boy bed. I could tell his convertible toddler bed wasn't going to last much longer and we just happened to have an extra full mattress that wasn't being used. So another perfect time to change the theme. I always try to convince him of something that he isn't going to grow out of within a couple months (toddlers change their likes pretty often!) and this time we chose 'outer space'! I love it because it is teaching him and it's fun! I have a ton of DIYs that I am working on and will be posting when they are finished, but for now here is his bed:
Target Pillowfort collection for the win!

4. We have been steadily adding to our smashed penny collection! I have always been big on 'life experiences/memories over things/stuff'. People probably think I'm a bit nuts when it comes to taking Myles places, but I will always choose to spend my money taking him places over buying him things! But we have to have souvenirs to remember the places by, right!?! The thing about me is though that I hate 'stuff'. I am a minimalist to the extreme. So the penny collection couldn't be more perfect! They all fit neatly in this cute passport book my mom got us and takes up very little extra space! I hope one day we will fill this all up and have to get another one. If your a penny collector like us, you have yo check out this website listing the locations of all the machines the whole world!

5. I'm not sure why it took me so long, but I finally created a Facebook page for my blog! I would love it sooo much if you guys would like the page and also leave a link to your Facebook blog pages so I can like you back :)

I love following great blogs on all social media. Drop me links in the comments below so I can link up with you guys!

Five on Friday: Funnies Edition

Well it's Friday and we all know what that means: Five on Friday!
Lately I have been all about the "humor" section on Pinterest. I never looked through it before because I mainly just used Pinterest for decor, party ideas, and recipes. About a month ago, I was laying in bed before sleep, doing my nightly Pinterest perusing, when I happened upon the "humor" section. I was bored with all my normal categories, so I thought I would give it a try. Normally I can't stand the constant barrage of memes and such all over Facebook; I like Facebook for keeping updated on family/friends lives'. However contrary to my initial skepticism, this section on Pinterest is the best! I get at least one good laugh every time I skim through it, and usually by the end of the night, I need a good laugh!

So here are my current favorites compiled in this weeks Five on Friday: Funnies Edition

I literally LOL'ed on this one! I think it's so funny when you find a meme that is totally you, but you thought no one else did or thought the same. I seriously do this a least 100 times a post. I am embarrassed by how horrible my spelling is.. I am a teacher for goodness sakes (though not a language one thankfully)! I have always been a horrible speller, so I rely heavily on spell-check and Google to be sure I don't make a fool out of myself. When I was in college, 90% of my tests were essay, so I had to be very strategic with my writing. If I wasn't 100% certain on how to spell a word, I would have to change what I was writing to use another word. #nospellwell #badspellerproblems

So sad, but so true! This doesn't happen every time, but it happens more often than I would like to admit. There are times I know that no one in the house will eat the leftovers, but I feel guilty throwing them away. So, in the Tupperware they go, only to be thrown away a week later. But for some reason I don't feel as bad then because, you know, now it's too old to be eaten, so I have to throw it away. First world problems at its finest y'all!

This pretty much sums up my thought process everyday. Unfortunately, the nap part usually doesn't happen unless I lay down with Myles for his nap. I have been a nap lover since I can remember. I used to purposely not sleep as much at night, just so I would be able to take a nap in the afternoon. This was soo me all throughout college... and if I am being honest... my first years teaching as well!

[FOUR]
Kids say the darnedest things, right?!? They are also extremely smart :)

 [FIVE]
Okay this last one isn't from Pinterest, but I had to include it.
First a little background: Weird things happen in our house sometimes that can't really be explained (like coming home to our bath tub completely full and the water on full blast).  After the first couple of times, I decided it was a ghost and named him George. If one of us forgets to do something or leaves something on, I always blame George. He's a pretty good scapegoat if I ever seen one!
So anywho, one day I am in my room folding clothes that I emptied out on top of the bed. I kept smelling something really horrible, but I couldn't quite figure out where or what it was. I thought maybe Myles had a poopy diaper or the dog had pooped in our room somewhere. After I finished the clothes, I went on an investigation. Well, it didn't take too long to figure out where the smell was coming from: I found the cat in his usual spot on our bed, but he happened to have a little something peculiar on him. Yes, that is right folks, he had a big pile of poop on him! I shit you not.. totally real!
I sat in shock for what felt like 10 minutes before I got the courage to clean it all up.. But I couldn't for the life of me figure out what happened. I racked my brain for the next couple of days and even now I can't understand. It couldn't have been the dog because we have a tiny miniature pincher that can't climb onto our bed because he is too small and old. Even if he did, I can't imagine the cat just sitting there while the dog pooped on him (our cat and dog do not get along. The dog is scared of the cat). Furthermore, the dog does not poop like that. I would say that it looks more like the cat poop, but how is that physically possible? I am missing something here? Does anyone have any thoughts?

Also I would love to have a caption contest! I have thought of a few myself but I want to know what you guys can come up with! Leave a comment below.

Five on Friday: Pet Peeves, Hair Loss, & Some Tears

I am normally not a bandwagon jumper, but I decided that my love for random, snippets of life is just too great to keep passing up Five on Friday! Five on Friday posts are my favorite posts to read every week, so I wanted to join in on the fun.
I think these posts are a cute way to get to know the blogger behind the blog; what's going on in their everyday life, what things they are currently loving, cute pics of the offspring... I love it and I hope you will love mine!

Amen and Halleluiah...I am so glad I read this post about Nature vs. Nurture over the weekend.  I love reading studies that confirm my parenting style. People hated on me for not letting Myles cry for like the first 4 months of his life. I may not know everything or even much about raising children, but I do know what I feel comfortable with and what I don't. I've had to defend myself on a lot of my choices, so it's nice to have some scientific backup on what I believe is right. Things have changed a lot since Myles was a newborn (trust me, he cries now), but still I always show him TONS of love and he knows where he is safe. I am so looking forward to reading the book as well! I think it's going to be my first Audible app download.

TWO
Three words: Daylight Savings Time... "Fall Back" used to be one of the greatest combinations of words to ever grace my vocabulary! I remember just a few short years ago when DST meant an extra hour at the bar, and before that it meant an extra hour of sleep! And if you know anything about me, you know how much I adore sleep. Unfortunately, sleep is a thing of the past now that I am a mother. It's a good thing I adore something else more now because I definitely could have been admitted to the psych ward because of my lack of sleep this past year.
But I digress... This is the 3rd Daylight Savings Time I have gone through with Myles so far and this one has been the worst! Since I have finally gotten him to sleep through the night (10 hours) about a month ago, he was going to bed around 9:30-10 and getting up at 8am. I wanted to get him going to bed earlier, but he kept taking his nap so late that he wouldn't go to bed until 10pm. I was happy about the 8am wake time though.

Cue Daylight 'Sucking' Time... now Myles wakes up at 7am. His biological clock is on point; no tricking this kid with a time change. I know it's only an hour, but it has really thrown me off. I usually stay up until 12-12:30 blogging and such, but this week I'm so exhausted by 10, I can barely keep my eyes open. The one good thing is that he is going to bed around 9pm now. He is getting the same amount of sleep, so I should be too... I can just never get any blogging done during the day, so I stay up way too late and then hate getting up in the morning. Really, I shouldn't complain; it's actually a better schedule than before, I just need to get over 7am seeming so early and get to bed earlier.

After writing that, I feel so ashamed I am complaining about 7am... First World Problems at its finest!

THREE
This is my shower hair art; I'm thinking of opening a museum! I have several other amazing pieces in my archives now! Anyone else want to submit their work?!?
Okay jokes aside, this actually makes me really sad :(
This has been my normal hair loss since I got pregnant. Yea the thick, shinny pregnancy hair that is supposed to be one of the perks of carrying around a baby for 9 months... yup that one completely missed me. My hair was falling out like nobody's business. And it only got worse postpartum.  Every shower would be handful after handful of my already thinning hair washing down the drain. I vividly remember brushing my hair after a shower one day and seeing two huge empty spots on the sides of my forehead... I instantly freaked out.. like panic attack freaked out... It eventually slowed down around 8 months postpartum and it has started to grow back in those spots.

But at one year postpartum the hair loss came back in full force. The picture above is the typical aftermath of a shower... this is not including what goes down the drain. Three months into this again and I don't know how much longer it can go on before I am bald! I'm not sure if it can even be considered a postpartum symptom anymore. I'm at a loss.. Anyone with any suggestions?

FOUR
Vent time: I probably have way too many pet peeves to be able to function normally in society. Last week, I had a lesson in learning how to hold my tongue when I encountered one of these:

I had to return something to a store. The cashier returned the item and the total was $6.99. After she opened the register, I asked if I could just give her a penny so I could get an even $7 back. She of course says she can't because she already entered it and it would make her register off.... I so badly wanted to school her in Register 101, but I just said whatever and left. But it got me soooo irritated. I worked a cash register for over 10 years and guess what, cash is cash!! If you give me $6.99 or if I give you a penny and you give me $7, it's the same thing! Your drawer still has the same amount of money in it! It's not rocket science people! You can think outside of the register.. you actually have a brain that should be able to problem solve....Okay rant over!

FIVE
This video: A friend put this up on Facebook last night and I definitely shed a few tears. I knew just by the name that it would be a tear-jerker.

Stuff like this always gets me. I could write a whole post just about bullying at school, but I won't go into that here. It really breaks my heart and makes me scared for Myles to grow up. I never want him to feel that sadness. People say it's all just a part of growing up, but I completely disagree. To this day, I can still remember certain comments made to me during grade school that really hurt. And to know Myles will most likely experience that as well and it makes me anxious. I hope when the time comes, I know how to help him deal with it and not let it effect him.

Kudos to the students in this video for being supportive and encouraging to him, even though at one time they were most likely the ones making fun of him. It's nice to at least see that they are growing and becoming more mature.
