I have had these two projects pinned to my DIY boards on Pinterest for a while and was just now able to get around to trying them out this weekend.
It's getting to be scarf weather here in the Easy Bay area, so I thought it would be nice to try and do something a little better than stock piling them on a regular hanger. It gets really annoying to have to take them all off every time I want the one on the bottom, and then they just end up hanging out on the floor for a couple days. I thought this scarf hanger was such a clever idea, I had to make one of my own.
All you need is a hanger and shower curtain rings. I also used a hot glue gun to glue the rings in place, but it is not necessary. I used a hanger that came with some curtains that I bought. I bought the shower rings at the Dollar Tree.
1. First, I hung the hanger from a kitchen cabinet.
2. Then I put the rings on the hanger and snapped them close. I used seven on mine. You could probably do a couple more, but I wanted to have ample room to take them in and out.
3. And lastly, I glued them in place. I put a little glue on the ring where it snaps together and then placed it where I wanted it to go. It dried very quickly and has stayed attached so far.
The second project I did was even easier! We had been talking about getting a place for our keys since we moved into our place 5 months ago. We used to just put them in a bowl, but I hate extra stuff on the counter space, so I wanted something on the wall. So, of course, I go to the all-mighty Pinterest to see what simple DIY project I could whip up. This frame key hook was exactly what I was looking to have. So I headed to Goodwill to see what recycled goodies I could find. The thrift gods were working in my favor that day because I found the perfect square frame. It was kind of like a shadow box with no glass and had a silver, ceramic mold of a guy praying on a black velvet background. I am only sharing this because when Mark saw what I had picked out, he went on and on about how much he loved it. He was not very thrilled when he found out that I would be taking it apart and insisted that I find another frame. Well that one was too perfect and the 'art' in it was hideous. When I started the project, I thought I would compromise and at least save the thing we wanted after I detached it from the frame. Well in the process, it kind of fell on the ground.... and broke. Mark accused me of doing it on purpose; I mean I really wasn't meaning to, but I also wasn't being very careful. The good thing is though that I had to throw it away.. oh darn...
Anywho, all you need for this is a picture frame and hooks. You can get creative and paint it or add some decoration, but I liked the color of the wood on my frame so I just left it alone.
All I did was pop the back off of the frame and screw in three hooks. I had to use a drill to start the holes because it was too hard with just the hooks. Then I hung it on the wall, and Ta-Da... DIY key hook in 5 minutes!
